In their quest to be global participants, many Asian countries including Indonesia must initiate an active role in commerce, manufacturing, and technology not only in the international community but also within the region. Being the lingua franca, English is the passport to this competitive arena. This makes it an imperative for newly industrialized and developing countries to make English serve its purpose. As such, English language teaching institutions in their respective countries must redefine their roles against a background of diverse and conflicting interests and needs that must be bridged, and yet ensure standards of practices and of practitioners.
Aims:
to equip ELT practitioners with current issues and challenges debated not only in Indonesia but also in the Asian region
to provide innovations and perspectives in English language teaching unique to this region
