The following statements  were given by the participants upon the completion of the 3rd LIA Research Colloquium.

Bimo, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Semarang Candi:

The colloquium was great and gave me a lot of knowledge about CAR. It stimulates me to be actively involved in conducting CAR in my branch and I’m going to present my research in Bali next year.

The committee was professional and could anticipate any problems. In parallel sessions, I could learn the presentation in depth because there were only 12 -15 participants in the room.

Susan and her friend, teachers from LBPP LIA Banjarmasin:

The colloquium was beneficial because I got new techniques, new ideas.

I learned a lot and it motivated me to do action research.

The colloquium ran well. The committee worked well and I really appreciated their work. I’m sure the committee had done their best. It was well organized.

Unfortunately, I missed one thing here. The energizer was not as “heboh” (exciting) as last year’s colloquium. But, the colloquium has inspired me to do CAR next time.

Ade and her friend, LIA teachers from LBPP LIA Purwokerto:

The colloquium was useful. We can create new teaching activities, which I can bring to make learning fun for our students.

It was my first colloquium ever. I got a lot of new information, new input and I met smart people. I like the parallel sessions. I admire those who presented their papers. I’ve been inspired to do action research. The colloquium was great. I can get some good things for my teaching.

On the first day, there were some problems like too long check-in time, sound interruption from outside., not really good for International event.

On the first day, I believe that Bu Luciana’s presentation was crucial but we got limited time. She said:” I’ll do this quickly.” And then she said,” I’ll do more quickly.” And I said in my heart,” wait, wait……..hold on.” And she ran out of time. When it was QA period. She asked:” Who wants to ask?” No one. Everybody was tired. I think I actually didn’t get a lot from Luciana’s presentation, but she is really good.

Wasi Dewanto, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Solo:

It was beneficial. We got a lot of ideas for action research topics, which we can use for our next research.

The invited speakers are good, but their presentations, especially the second one, were too theoretical. I don’t think that it will be beneficial for our teachers. Maybe it will be good for lecturers, for example.

The organization of the event was good, but I think It could have been covered in one day instead of two days. I don’t know the reason for conducting it for two days. For me, because I’m from Solo, It would have been easier if it had lasted only one day.

My suggestion for the committee is that the coffee and the refreshment should have been given during the coffee break before the second presentation so that the participants would have been awake when Bu Luciana delivered her paper.

Suratno, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Bandar Lampung:

I got a lot of benefits from this colloquium. I know more about CAR. It inspired me to write, to do action research.

The speakers are good. I was inspired by their presentations. The organization of the colloquium was good, but somehow, you know, we had witnessed things, but we should introspect … by asking the participants and I think the colloquium should have been conducted in one place instead of two places, in a hotel and at LBPP-LIA Pandeansari. So we spent much time going back and forth. I got only one complaint – the service of the hotel.

Deddy Kurniawan, a presenter from LBPP LIA Jambi

I can meet inspiring people. I can learn from my colleagues. I get a lot of knowledge about CAR. I think through CAR we can improve our teaching practices and we can gain some information on how to conduct our classes better.

I think it can help me cope with burnt-out teacher. You know, after some period of teaching, we feel a little bored and by doing CAR, I can do something different. It helps me motivate myself.

For next term, I’m not sure, but I think I’m going to write, but I don’t think I can present it next year.

The organization was good, maybe there was something with the schedule. There was not enough time for invited speakers to present their ideas. I think the speakers are good. I was especially impressed with Ibu Luciana. She gave a lot of practical stuff on conducting action research as well as some techniques how to test the students. If I’m not mistaken, she also talked about how to test the students.

The organization of the colloquium was good, very good, but I think it can be improved, especially about the schedule for invited speakers. I think we should have more days, a special day for invited speakers and another day for parallel sessions.

Sutrisno, a teacher coordinator from LBPP LIA  Makassar

I got a lot of knowledge, practically dealing with my ability in teaching and other things like friends, also resources that might be useful for teaching skill background.

I didn’t present my paper this year because now, I’m academically in charge of LBPP-LIA Makassar and that is, you know, a huge number of responsibility. I must maintain the quality of teaching and learning process at LBPP-LIA Makassar with more than 15 teachers, so everyday I must substitute the teacher who is absent. It’s like a standby for 12 hours in the office, so I don’t have enough time to research and to think what’s the thing that I might do for my professional background.

The invited speakers are good because they can give us knowledge, experiences, although in this case there some theoretical background which actually may be useful, but may not really, considering that we are practitioners in the class. We need some practical things that can be applied in the classroom.

Maybe more practical activities dealing with the research can be presented by invited speakers later on.

I’m satisfied with the organization of the colloquium. I personally should learn a lot from them. Well, why I say that I’m satisfied because of the way the managed ran activities, rundown events, places etc.

The first thing I’d like to suggest is that if it’s possible to invite …….you know because in the letter I received, if I’m not mistaken ……. Only particular teachers who got more than 5 years experience, TOEFL score bla ..bla.. bla and also the presenters. If those items can be added …….. also teachers who are concerned in teaching. Although they do not meet that kind of requirements, they can be allowed to join. That’s my suggestion.
