<p>Currently as the Head of the Training, Research, Assessment &amp; Consultancy Department of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education (SEAMEO), Regional Language Centre (RELC) Singapore, Dr Chan Yue Weng is dedicated to the development of language teacher education and promotion of international cooperation among language professionals in the region. As such, he has conducted many TESL/TEFL teacher training workshops and courses in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.</p>
<p>His latest language testing projects include the conceptualization and implementation of the Aviation English Competency Test (AECT) for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the MINDEF/SAF Language Proficiency Scale (MSLPS), Ministry of Defence, Singapore, and the Malay Oral Proficiency Test (MOPT) for Conversational Malay Enrichment Programme, Ministry of Education, Singapore.  He’s an authorized and certified language examiner for pilots and air-traffic controllers for the Singapore Aviation Academy.</p>
<p>He is also currently, the editor of the RELC Journal – A journal of language teaching and research.</p>
<p>Prior to joining RELC, he was the Dean of the School of Languages and Liberal Arts at INTI College Malaysia, one of the premier providers of private education in Malaysia.</p>
<p>In addition, he also has 22 years of experience as a TESL teacher educator in 5 Malaysian teacher training colleges. He has worked closely with the Malaysian Ministry of Education’s Teacher Education Division to pioneer the joint B.Ed. TESL degree programme for pre-service TESL teachers between Malaysian teacher training colleges and the UK, Australia and New Zealand universities. In addition, as the head of the Research and Development Department at the English Language Teaching Centre, Malaysia (ELTC), he has conducted nationwide research on the professional and linguistics needs of in-service TESL teachers with objectives of improving the quality of English language teaching in the country. He was also very much involved in the conceptualizing and implementation of the English for the Teaching of Mathematics and Science Teachers (ETeMS) programmes in Malaysia.</p>
<p><strong>Major Interests</strong>: Reading-writing connections (intertextuality, reading across texts, writing from sources, writing task requirements), action research, teacher professional development, and language testing</p>

<p>Previously, he was Head of English Language in the Department of English Language and Literature at the National University of Singapore where he taught for more than 25 years. More recently he was a Language Specialist with Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, Regional Language Centre (RELC) in Singapore. Professor Foley has taught in all the countries in Southeast Asia as well as Japan, China, Australia and the UK. He has also been advisor to several Ministries of Education and Research fellow in Australia, Japan, Mauritius, Thailand and the UK. He has published widely, mainly in the area of Systemic Linguistics, Language Development and World Englishes. He was for many years been the editor of the <em>RELC Journal</em> and is now editor of <em>The New English Teacher</em>.</p>

<p>Current Position    : Manager, Teacher Training &amp; Development (TTD) sub directorate, LBPP LIA<br /> Selestin Zainuddin is currently a manager of Teacher Training and Development Manager Sub Directorate at Lembaga Bahasa dan Pendidikan Professional LIA (LBPP-LIA) Jakarta. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Mathematics from University of Indonesia and her Master&#8217;s Degree in Applied Linguistics from Atmajaya University Jakarta. She has been teaching and working with young learners, teenagers, adults, student teachers, teachers and teacher trainers for over 15 years now &#8211; and still loves it!</p>
<p>As a teacher she has taught General English programs of all levels. She has taught ESP programs as well — English for Pilots, English for Miners, English for Engineers, English for Business, English for Content Teachers and many others. As an academic supervisor, she mentored and developed teachers in sharpening their abilities. As a teacher trainer, she mentors student teachers and teaches subjects related to grammar, pronunciation, classroom management, lesson planning, professional development and the teaching of the four skills. She is involved in the recruitment/ selection and the training  of LBPP LIA teachers, academic operation officers, and teacher trainers.</p>
<p>She has also written materials and tests for some LBPP-LIA English programs. She is very much involved in the conceptualizing and implementation of English for Content Teachers Program (ECT). She has been writing materials and tests for Content Teachers since 2006. Her latest project which is one of her passions  is designing and implementing LIA e-TEFL. Her teaching interests revolves around teacher education—TEFL for both adults and children (especially the teaching of listening and reading) and the use of  technology for enhancing teaching and learning (especially e-learning).</p>

He has published articles and books on various topics, including an edited book Methodology in Language Teaching: An Anthology of Current Practice (with Jack C. Richards), published by Cambridge University Press (2002). He is also co-editor (with Jack C. Richards) of a language teacher resource series, called the RELC Portfolio Series, which has been translated into Portuguese and Spanish.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a  href="http://www.liaconferences.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Oanh.jpg" class="thickbox no_icon" rel="gallery-2231" title="Duong Thi Hoang Oanh"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2230" title="Duong Thi Hoang Oanh" src="http://www.liaconferences.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Oanh-150x150.jpg" alt="Duong Thi Hoang Oanh" width="150" height="150" /></a>Dương Thị Hoàng Oanh<strong> </strong>obtained her BA in the English Language at Hue University (1985), Vietnam, MA in TESOL at Canberra University (1994), Australia; PhD in Applied Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (2003); and Post Doctorate in Management in Higher Education at Yale University, the USA (2007). Starting her teaching career in 1985, she is now the Associate Director, Office for International Cooperation and Director, Centre for Interpretation and Translation of Hue University. Previously, she was in charge of the International Studies Division (2006); Director of the Office for International Relations, Research Management and Post-Graduate Education (2005); and Dean of the English  Department (1999), Hue University.</p>
<p>Her teaching and researching interests focus on comparative studies, educational reforms, curriculum design, learner communicative competence, learner autonomy and classroom practices. She has received national and international grants for research on educational reforms, higher education management, and assessment. She has participated as both panel chair and presenter at many conferences in the USA, Australia, New  Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Her most recent publications are “Intercultural Competence and Global Citizenship: The Harmonization of Theory &amp; Practice” (<em>The SAGE Handbook of Intercultural </em>Competence, USA. 2009 &#8211; co-author: Mark Ashwill); “Memorisation and CLT in Vietnamese Foreign Language Study” (TESOL Classroom Practice Series, USA, 2009); “Meeting Students’ Needs in the Two EAP Programmes in Vietnam and New Zealand: a Comparative Study” (RELC, Singapore, 2007); and &#8220;Learner Autonomy in an Asian Context: Independent Learning and Independent Work at a University in Vietnam&#8221; (<em>Language Teacher Research Asia</em>, LTR Series TESOL, USA, 2006).</p>

<p>Patrisius Istiarto Djiwandono was born in Malang, 16 March 1967. He earned his Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees in English Language Education from The <a  href="http://www.malang.ac.id/english/index.htm">State University of Malang</a>, in 1991, 1994, and 1998, respectively. He also earned Diploma TESL from <a  href="http://www.victoria.ac.nz/home/">Victoria University of Wellington</a>, New Zealand in 1992.</p>
<p>From 1999 to 2003 he headed the research center at Universitas Widya Karya, Malang, before moving to <a  href="http://www.ubaya.ac.id/en/">Universitas Surabaya</a> in Surabaya. From 2005 to January 2008, he was the Director of Ubaya Language Center at the university, and taught Language Testing, Academic Writing, and Teaching Listening and Speaking at the Post Graduate Program of <a  href="http://widyamandala.org/about.php?ID=2&#038;action=detail">Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala</a>, Surabaya. In 2001, he was granted fund by The Directorate of Higher Learning of Indonesia to develop a proficiency test of Indonesian language.</p>
<p>He has published 5 books on language testing and learning strategies. His most recent book is “Strategi Belajar Bahasa Inggris: Belajar Membaca, Menyimak, Menulis dan Berbicara dengan Taktis”, which is published by Indeks. His articles were published in various national and international journals.</p>
<p>In February 2008, he moved to <a  href="http://www.machung.ac.id/eng/">Ma Chung University</a>, Malang, where he holds a new position as Manager of Quality Assurance in addition to teaching Applied Linguistics courses at the English Study Program. In October 2008 he was assigned to set up a language center for Universitas Ma Chung.</p>
<p>He pursue interests in Second Language Acquisition, language teaching methodology, and language testing.</p>

<p>Hafilia Ismanto started her career in English Language Teaching in 1984 as a part time English teacher in LIA.  She has held various positions since she became a full time teacher in 1998, namely, Head of Curriculum &amp; Materials Development for ESP, Branch Manager of LBPP LIA Pengadegan and its extension—LBPP LIA Pasar Minggu, Teacher Training and Development Manager, and her present position as Director of Academic Affairs.</p>
<p>As Head of Curriculum &amp; materials Development, she has designed course syllabus and written materials for LBPP LIA Conversation in English textbooks and various customized programs used for in-house training.</p>
<p>As Branch Manager of LBPP LIA Pengadegan and its extension—LBPP LIA Pasar Minggu, she played a key role in setting up LIA KID’s Center in LBPP LIA Pasar Minggu to meet the growing demand of parents who wish to provide English language education in elementary school level.</p>
<p>Her role as Teacher Training and Development Manager includes designing pre- and in-service training for LBPP LIA’s over 1000 teaching staff, academic operation officers (academic supervisors) and developing a competency-based recruitment &amp; selection process for LIA’s candidate teachers.  She developed the LIA FIESTA teacher profile which stands for Fun &amp; Friendly, Interactive, Explorative, Systematic, Autonomous and conducted numerous training programs to nurture those characteristics needed to be a LIA teacher.</p>
<p>Her current position overlooks responsibilities such as setting up standards for the quality of learning &amp; teaching process in the institution, updating and modifying LBPP LIA Core Curriculum to suit changing needs in the society, and developing  LIA teachers competencies and LIA textbooks materials in line with the LIA’s pedagogical principles of language learning &amp; teaching—Learning is fun, Learning more than just English, Learning how to learn, specifically within the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) context.</p>
<p>She has presented in national &amp; international seminars, workshops &amp; conferences and become a resource person in talk shows.  She believes that English as tool for global communication is a necessity for Indonesian if Indonesia is to be a competitive player, not merely a spectator, in this era of globalization.</p>

<p><strong></strong>Ali Aljufri currently works as a trainer for Teacher Training and Development Sub Directorate of <a  href="http://www.lia.ac.id" target="_blank">Lembaga Bahasa dan Pendidikan Professional LIA Jakarta (LBPP-LIA)</a>. He designs, presents and analyzes trainings in LBPP-LIA Jakarta for candidate teachers, teachers and academic supervisors/mentors. He handles subjects such as Skills and Techniques in the teaching of Listening, Speaking, Reading and writing, Classroom Management and Professional Development.</p>
<p>He studied English Education in State University of Semarang in 1998. He then transferred his study and earned his bachelor degree from University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta in 2006.</p>
<p>He started his career in English teaching by becoming a private teacher and a highschoool teacher. In 2001 he joined LBPP-LIA Surakarta while he was a teacher for SDN 15 Surakarta. One of his achievements as an elementary school teacher was conducting the pilot project by DIKNAS. His work in SDN 15 made the school as one of the most successful elementary schools which used English as the medium of instructions in teaching English as the subject matter. Previously, the school had adopted the teaching of English using Bahasa Indonesia. He also initiated projects involving parents in improving their children&#8217;s English. Some of the projetcs were going on outings to Mc Donald&#8217;s and historical places, conducting school bazaars and administering their own children&#8217;s progress test.</p>
<p>After joining LBPP-LIA Surabaya for one and a half year, he took on the position of a teacher trainer for LBPP LIA Teacher Training and Development Sub directorate.</p>
<p>He has undertaken professional development programs such as joining an online course on Pursuing Professional Development, conducting research on teaching writing for young learners, presenting in ASIA TEFL 2008, and attending local seminars and gatherings on ELT. He is on the team which designs materials LIA English for Content Teachers program. He is currently working on a project on developing LBPP-LIA&#8217;s trainers.</p>
<p>His interests vary. However, they are rooted from his passion: Teachers Professional Development.</p>
