Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality and congratulations for a superbly organised conference. I found it both enjoyable and stimulating and was able to meet a number of new faces and renew some old friendships. Please pass on my thanks to all the members of the LIA team.

Willy Renandya:
I really enjoyed Bali and I must compliment the organizing committee for doing such a nice job. I'd give them 10 out of 10.

Here are some memorable impressions the committee received from the speakers and participants:

Andy Kirpatrick:

Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality and congratulations for a superbly organised conference. I found it both enjoyable and stimulating and was able to meet a number of new faces and renew some old friendships. Please pass on my thanks to all the members of the LIA team.

Willy Renandya:

I really enjoyed Bali and I must compliment the organizing committee for doing such a nice job. I’d give them 10 out of 10.

Doung Thi Hoang Oanh:

Thanks so much indeed for the great time I had in Bali with all the unforgettable memories: my first trip to Bali was so impressive that it would be the highlight of my traveling up to now!

I have found the conference a great success in every aspect. Academically, I had a chance to learn from well-known and typical presenters from the world and Indonesia. I could also talk to the committee and the participants to share ideas, set up future network and further collaboration.

Culturally, I have learned a lot about your culture with the unique dances and the folklore behind daily life styles. I love the way you organised the conference, making full use of modern techniques and the valuable cultural traces, with the gong to start the conference, and the bamboo bells to signals the sessions. Just wonderful and so Bali!

In terms of organisation, the conference was very well organised in a creative and thoughtful way: the contents were rich and comprehensive, covering different and diversified aspects and perspectives around similar themes. I trust that everyone felt fulfilled, learning new things everyday. The conference started with the well-made speeches and ended with an enthusiastic session which made everyone laugh, encouraged and happy. The balloon session on the beach was another memorable event as well.

The conference was unique in another sense that besides academic activities, there were many others interwoven into the “conference life”. Within a short time, we experienced different cultures, making friends all over the world, having chances to make quality conversations with them… I felt warm, safe, trusted and taken care of all the time.

Well, I could go on and on with you about how I love my Bali trip and how I consider it a best conference of them all.

Marc Helgesen:

I want to thank you for the opportunity to present at the LIA conference. I thought the conference was well organized and the participants were wonderful. They were so enthusiastic.

I was great to part of such a useful, professional event.
I wish you and all of your members great success and happiness in your teaching.

George Scholz:

A hearty congratulations to you and the LIA team for hosting such a wonderful conference! Your team’s efforts were incredible, the planning and details were all well done. I was so pleased to be able to participate. Thank you again for presenting a conference celebration of LIA at 50.

Ganakumaran Subramaniam

A very carefully planned and rigorously organised conference.

Kelly Leo, Sekolah Mahanaim, Guru Biologi

Lika, Sekolah Mahanaim
Kami mendapatkan banyak hal, terutama ‘encouragement’. Presenter sangat bersemangat dan memberikan sangat banyak teknik-teknik mengajar. Buat kami, hal ini sangat luar biasa. Kami mendapat banyak informasi mengenai pemanfaatan internet.

Eko Budoyo, Sekolah Bani Saleh

Fakih, SMP Islam Al-Azhar IX, Kemang Pratama, Guru Matematika

Asmar, SMP Immanuel, Guru Matematika

Strength of the presentation:

LIA is the best. You create really good teachers in Makassar.

Very interesting workshop!

It is very interesting and useful for us as English teachers and content teachers.

The presenter talked about CLIL that is needed now, especially for the improvement of education in Makassar.

The presenter knew how to attract the participants’ attention.

Very good.

Let us know what CLIL is

Her presentation is not boring and provides the participants with creative activities.

Attractive, communicative and full of body language. Very nice!

The presentation was clarified by the real life samples and jokes.

Inspire and motivate me to learn English better than before.

Could pay equal attention to content & language teachers and also give anecdotes, so the workshop was fun and made us know the aim of CLIL.

The contents of the presentation are good.

The delivery of materials is really fun and accurate.

Using short sentences, which are easy to understand.

It can be useful for us as teachers to implement in our class.

I expect more from the workshop because I need some tips in teaching our classes, especially teaching kids with fun.

Very good but it is better if LIA gives the softcopy to the participants.

The presentation was good for me because she used Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Suggestions for the improvement:

This seminar is very useful for us (teachers in Makassar), so hopefully LIA is going to hold the more challenging one! I’m waiting for your invitation to join the best seminar!

I hope LIA would go to my school Athirah Elementary School (Bukit Baruga Makassar) to help us develop the contents in English!

It should be conducted longer.

I think it would be better if this kind of workshop can be held twice a year, and please inform the workshop to all schools.

Better prepared examples.

You must have the workshop regularly to increase our knowledge.

I think you must give us more workshops especially for RSBI teacher.

One day seminar is too short. Give us two or three day seminar for much better understanding.

The presenter should give more examples.

I hope the next workshop will provide activities in teaching English like games or role play.

Should display more pictures.

I hope that this event would be held annually since it can enhance the knowledge and motivation of English and Content teachers.

The presenter should give more examples on the application..

The presenters are creative and communicative.

For the next workshop, it’s better for the workshop committee to gain more sponsors in order to get more prizes.

More illustrations and examples about CLIL abroad.

Please give more materials in CDs or cassettes.

The presenter sometimes called one of committee to help her, so LIA should have two or more members of committee nearby.

As I know that workshop is a kind of event where the participants practice more in teaching.

This presentation is not enough for one day. It must be 2 days.

Other comments:

Give more games and clearer examples.

LIA always presents up to date information and I hope you can give solutions to our students on how to pass UAN.

Show more interesting materials again using new methods.

There should be more practice.

Thank you for conducting this workshop. Hopefully it won’t be the last one.

I want to join LIA because LIA has good presenters.

CLIL might be good for RSBI or SBI schools, but it seems difficult to be applied to non-RSBI schools. Any solution???

Give more attention, especially in giving “Prizes” to participants who come from so faraway places, he…he…he… thanks!

Hold another workshop about CLIL to make us more understand.

LIA must provide the best service for customers for the next workshop.

LIA must hold the next workshop in campus.

The sound system should be fixed to produce sufficiently loud voice that could be heard by the participants.

think if participants can do some discussion in groups, it will be more interesting and educating.

The presenter tends to pay attention to and interact with participants in a certain part of the room. The materials must be given before the program starts. Don’t make us wait for materials.

In the next workshop, we maybe talk about “curriculum”.

I hope LIA could present a native speaker who is knowledgeable about or has experience using the materials of the seminar.

She was explaining the materials well.

The following statements were given by the participants upon the completion of the 3rd LIA Research Colloquium.

Bimo, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Semarang Candi:

The colloquium was great and gave me a lot of knowledge about CAR. It stimulates me to be actively involved in conducting CAR in my branch and I’m going to present my research in Bali next year.

The committee was professional and could anticipate any problems. In parallel sessions, I could learn the presentation in depth because there were only 12 -15 participants in the room.

Susan and her friend, teachers from LBPP LIA Banjarmasin:

The colloquium was beneficial because I got new techniques, new ideas.

I learned a lot and it motivated me to do action research.

The colloquium ran well. The committee worked well and I really appreciated their work. I’m sure the committee had done their best. It was well organized.

Unfortunately, I missed one thing here. The energizer was not as “heboh” (exciting) as last year’s colloquium. But, the colloquium has inspired me to do CAR next time.

Ade and her friend, LIA teachers from LBPP LIA Purwokerto:

The colloquium was useful. We can create new teaching activities, which I can bring to make learning fun for our students.

It was my first colloquium ever. I got a lot of new information, new input and I met smart people. I like the parallel sessions. I admire those who presented their papers. I’ve been inspired to do action research. The colloquium was great. I can get some good things for my teaching.

On the first day, there were some problems like too long check-in time, sound interruption from outside., not really good for International event.

On the first day, I believe that Bu Luciana’s presentation was crucial but we got limited time. She said:” I’ll do this quickly.” And then she said,” I’ll do more quickly.” And I said in my heart,” wait, wait……..hold on.” And she ran out of time. When it was QA period. She asked:” Who wants to ask?” No one. Everybody was tired. I think I actually didn’t get a lot from Luciana’s presentation, but she is really good.

Wasi Dewanto, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Solo:

It was beneficial. We got a lot of ideas for action research topics, which we can use for our next research.

The invited speakers are good, but their presentations, especially the second one, were too theoretical. I don’t think that it will be beneficial for our teachers. Maybe it will be good for lecturers, for example.

The organization of the event was good, but I think It could have been covered in one day instead of two days. I don’t know the reason for conducting it for two days. For me, because I’m from Solo, It would have been easier if it had lasted only one day.

My suggestion for the committee is that the coffee and the refreshment should have been given during the coffee break before the second presentation so that the participants would have been awake when Bu Luciana delivered her paper.

Suratno, an Academic supervisor/mentor from LBPP LIA Bandar Lampung:

I got a lot of benefits from this colloquium. I know more about CAR. It inspired me to write, to do action research.

The speakers are good. I was inspired by their presentations. The organization of the colloquium was good, but somehow, you know, we had witnessed things, but we should introspect … by asking the participants and I think the colloquium should have been conducted in one place instead of two places, in a hotel and at LBPP-LIA Pandeansari. So we spent much time going back and forth. I got only one complaint – the service of the hotel.

Deddy Kurniawan, a presenter from LBPP LIA Jambi

I can meet inspiring people. I can learn from my colleagues. I get a lot of knowledge about CAR. I think through CAR we can improve our teaching practices and we can gain some information on how to conduct our classes better.

I think it can help me cope with burnt-out teacher. You know, after some period of teaching, we feel a little bored and by doing CAR, I can do something different. It helps me motivate myself.

For next term, I’m not sure, but I think I’m going to write, but I don’t think I can present it next year.

The organization was good, maybe there was something with the schedule. There was not enough time for invited speakers to present their ideas. I think the speakers are good. I was especially impressed with Ibu Luciana. She gave a lot of practical stuff on conducting action research as well as some techniques how to test the students. If I’m not mistaken, she also talked about how to test the students.

The organization of the colloquium was good, very good, but I think it can be improved, especially about the schedule for invited speakers. I think we should have more days, a special day for invited speakers and another day for parallel sessions.

Sutrisno, a teacher coordinator from LBPP LIA Makassar

I got a lot of knowledge, practically dealing with my ability in teaching and other things like friends, also resources that might be useful for teaching skill background.

I didn’t present my paper this year because now, I’m academically in charge of LBPP-LIA Makassar and that is, you know, a huge number of responsibility. I must maintain the quality of teaching and learning process at LBPP-LIA Makassar with more than 15 teachers, so everyday I must substitute the teacher who is absent. It’s like a standby for 12 hours in the office, so I don’t have enough time to research and to think what’s the thing that I might do for my professional background.

The invited speakers are good because they can give us knowledge, experiences, although in this case there some theoretical background which actually may be useful, but may not really, considering that we are practitioners in the class. We need some practical things that can be applied in the classroom.

Maybe more practical activities dealing with the research can be presented by invited speakers later on.

I’m satisfied with the organization of the colloquium. I personally should learn a lot from them. Well, why I say that I’m satisfied because of the way the managed ran activities, rundown events, places etc.

The first thing I’d like to suggest is that if it’s possible to invite …….you know because in the letter I received, if I’m not mistaken ……. Only particular teachers who got more than 5 years experience, TOEFL score bla ..bla.. bla and also the presenters. If those items can be added …….. also teachers who are concerned in teaching. Although they do not meet that kind of requirements, they can be allowed to join. That’s my suggestion.
